Despite being one of the most self-effacing songwriters of his generation, ben hambro has made a name for himself in writing the kind of unconventional earworms that lodge themselves in your brain for days on end. Having previously masterminded cult performance art troupe Lazarus Kane, he turned to a more introspective, lyrically focussed project in 2022 with vegas water taxi. Alongside core members Fred Lawton and Charlie Meyrick and former drummer Leo Lawton, they self - released their first album ‘things are gonna be alright’ in November 2023 - a beautiful, jarring collection of songs that charted the passage of your twenties with all the juxtapositions that come with it. Recorded in just two days, the record became a word of mouth favourite, with its David Berman - esque bon mots floating upon alt-country instrumentation reminiscent of Bill Callahan’s Knock Knock era Smog proving a deeply personal listen. With a rotating ensemble of collaborators joining for live shows, the band will be playing tracks from tagba as well as brand new material.
