The Night Shift: Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

+ Dream Logic

Monday 4th June

Join Matthew Truscott and the band for a night of Mendelssohn’s string quintets.

For the first time we’re heading to one of North London’s hidden gems, The Lexington in Angel. It’s a retro-themed bar with a mind-boggling whisky selection, and just so happens to be one of the best small venues in London.

We’re very excited to have Dream Logic in support with a string trio. His emotive compositions will be right up your street if you like Nils Frahm, A Winged Victory for the Sullen et al.

Drahla

+ Crack Cloud + Mush

Wednesday 6th June

Leeds three-piece Drahla are an anomaly: brazenly committed to doing things their own way, the band’s sound is somewhat at odds with the current musical landscape, negating layered, fuzz-pedal driven psychedelia in favour of a kind of innovative post-punk that draws from the parentage of Wire and The Fall in their prime, in part thanks to a propensity for enormous hooks and potent bass-lines, but mainly because of an ability to subvert conventions and take it somewhere new.

BBC Introducing

Kara Marni + Tiana Major9 + Olivia Nelson

Thursday 7th June

Delicious soul with a sprinkling of pop, Kara Marni is a standout. And BBC Introducing are bringing the songbird to The Lexington for a live lesson in meaningful melodies. With a back catalogue of RnB soaked introspect and a live show practiced on tour with Rita Ora, catch her before she shoots to the top.

Omni

+ Black Midi

Monday 11th June

OMNI
“The wiry Atlanta, Ga. rock trio Omni sells its nervous energy as a logical way of dealing with the world. Where other bands might smooth things out, Omni finds angles and sharp turns.” – Pitchfork

black midi
‘Selhurst band worth risking permanent hearing damage for. With a scarce online presence, these new London upstarts want to be seen live.’

Moaning

Tuesday 12th June

“Your new fave LA punk band Moaning have just signed to Sub-Pop” – Line of Best Fit

” The band are set to release their self-titled debut album next March, and have shared its roaring opening track ‘Don’t Go’ with a new video. The track that the band fully formed as a result of, ‘Don’t Go’ is an abrasive, thrilling introduction that points towards a debut album without boundaries or limitations.” – DIY

Lion

Wednesday June 13th

‘Self Control’, which channels White Stripes and AM-era Arctic Monkeys via the ‘70s-inflected rock of Jefferson Airplane, is the playful and self assured debut from LION aka Beth Lowen. The single sees LION’s ferocious, Janis Joplin-esque rasp of a voice acknowledge her own inability to deal with confrontation and offering a ‘sorry not sorry’ apology.

Linda Perry, who’s worked with the likes of Courtney Love, Adele and P!nk, was impressed by Lowen, and ended up using her song ‘Joyride’ on a soundtrack she curated for documentary Served Like A Girl and has since started working with the 24 year old.

The single comes off the back of a busy start to the year for LION. Without releasing any music she’s already garnering support from her husky but powerful live sets, with support slots for Albert Hammond Jnr, and The Vaccines, touring with Isaac Gracie, as well as recently announced GIRLI. She also performed at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas and will be performing at The Great Escape in May.

Life

+ Yassassin + Vulgarians

Thursday 14th June

Soaked in belligerent energy and fire-fused delivery, if there’s one thing these Hull lads have, it’s clear passion. With their recent album, Popular Music, featuring eleven songs, you’d think they’d need some time to slow down right? Wrong. Each track as static as it’s predecessor, imagine 80’s Californian punk mixed with Oasis streaks.

The Fuzillis

+ Ye Nuns + Thee Dagger Debs

THE FUZILLIS…. one word instr-o-mentals, rowdy saxes, raunchy guitars, and a wallet full of atomic age twist and grind a go-go tunes.
Where Link Wray and Las Vegas Grind collide with Grady Gaines’ Upsetters and The Fabulous Wailers by way of Nick Curran and Spike Jones

YE NUNS – launch their new limited 7″ single on State Records (I Don’t Want To Do This Again/Don’t Worry) with a party gig at the Lexington “All female Monks tribute band Ye Nuns are fantastic. Way better than any obsolescent nu-garage rock revolution group I’ve ever seen.” The Quietus
An all-girl celebration of The Monks, proto-krautrock garage punkers formed by a gang of American GIs stationed in Germany who legendarily sported tonsures and nooses on stage.
Ye Nuns send witchy, six-part harmonies crashing over scratchy guitars, layer on evil fuzz bass and add pounding drums. Lead vocals screech and soar. Electric banjo hacks relentlessly. Vintage keyboard sounds stab. Yet it’s still music that puts grins on faces and gets feet moving.

THEE DAGGER DEBS are three girls brought together by their love of 60s garage and British R’n’B, pub rock and proto punk. The Pirates (with Johnny Kidd and without), Eddie and the Hot Rods, Dr Feelgood, Nine Below Zero, Hurriganes, Count Bishops, MC5, Thin Lizzy, Slade and The Stranglers -to name a few- always feature heavily in their record boxes.

+ Conjurer + Itoldyouiwouldeatyou + Fresh

“…with such a deft grasp of songwiring, Nervus occupy a field of their own here .” Kerrang!

L.A Witch

Saturday 23rd June

From LA, unsurprisingly, this new trio combine surf rock riffs with gothic charm and an uncompromising vicious bite. Like a darker, more destructive Dum Dum Girls, tracks like Drive Your Car err on the side of Sonic Youth’s Death Valley era volatility.
